who is Dr Rubin and what is his background
Dr. Rubin’s Mini Medical School was conceived and designed in 2004 by Ira S. Rubin, M.D., Ph.D., of Naperville Pediatric Associates, with the help of his son, Zachary Rubin, who at the time was a student at Naperville Central High School.
Dr. Rubin was born and grew up in New York City. He was educated by the NYC public school system, graduating from Columbus High School. He then went to New York University where he received his B.A. in Biology. He then left NYC to attend The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine where he received his Ph.D. in Pathology and his M.D. degree. While in Medical School Dr. Rubin met his wife, Susan and decided to continue his training in Chicago by completing his residency in Pediatrics at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Rubin is Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and has been in practice over 30 years. Dr. and Mrs. Rubin have two sons, 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.
Zachary Rubin, M.D. graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Pre-Professional Scholars Program in Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. He then completed a pediatric residency at University of Illinois Children's Hospital in Chicago. He then studied pediatric allergy and clinical immunology at Washington University in St.Louis. He completed this fellowship in 2 years and then joined Oak Brook Allergists as an attending allergist/clinical immunologist specializing in pediatric food allergy and the COVID vaccine. Zachary is certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy/Immunology. He has been featured many times on Chicago ABC news for his expert analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact vaccines have had.
Dr. Rubin’s older son, Jason Rubin, D.P.M. graduated from The College of The University of Chicago and then graduated from Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. He completed a surgical residency at Weiss Memorial Hospital, Chicago IL. He is now in private practice in Naperville at the Rubin Foot and Ankle Clinic. Jason Rubin is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is an associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
Dr. Rubin runs his programs with his wife, Susan, as a community service project. In Dec 2019, he decided to incorporate as Dr. Rubin's Mini Medical School NFP and is recognized by the IRS as a 501C3 Private Foundation.
Most of our programs are held at Edward Hospital, Naperville, IL. Edward provides clerical support and space. Due to the pandemic and the need for more space, Dr. Rubin has held most of his classes last year and this year at the Naperville Campus of Northern Illinois University. Dr. Rubin is supported by the help of many Mini Med School Graduates who volunteer their time as teaching assistants.
